The Huffer Group’s Installation Process

The Huffer Group

At The Huffer Group, we pride ourselves on the quality of our work and the professionalism we provide to our customers. This includes providing every homeowner with higher quality materials than what is required by code. We also employ highly skilled professionals to perform installations and repairs, ensuring that our customers receive the best service.

  • Before every roof replacement or repair we provide a pre-construction attic inspection to inspect and note any deficiencies that are pre-existing.

  • During construction, we have a project manager at every job site ensuring quality control and providing an open line of communication with the homeowner.

  • During tear-off for a roof replacement, we remove all components of the roof down to the decking. This allows us to inspect for damaged or rotted decking and to ensure all flashing is adequate. If we discover damaged decking or damaged/missing flashing we will replace or provide these materials ensuring the roof has a good foundation before moving forward.

  • During the decking/flashing inspection, we clean up all roofing debris from the tear-off process ensuring the job site is clean and safe.

  • Once the foundation of the roof is sound and the job site is clean, we then begin drying in the home. This includes using Atlas Summit 60lb. Synthetic Underlayment on the entire roof and Atlas Weathermaster 200 Ice & Water Shield at all valleys, critical water run-off areas, all penetrations, and around the chimney.

  • After drying in the home, we then install a 2”x2” painted aluminum drip edge on the entire perimeter of the home including eaves and rakes. The reason for using 2”x2” is to ensure we get a good seal from the decking to the fascia.

  • We then proceed by installing Atlas Pro-Cut HP42 Starter Shingles on the entire perimeter of the home. Pro-Cut® HP42® starter shingles protect the roof edge and provide anchoring power for high wind resistance at the critical eave and rake areas. They protect the roof by filling spaces under the cutouts and edges for the first course of exposed shingles, preventing wind uplift.

  • At the next stage of the process, we proceed to install the shingles that the homeowner has selected. Our installation procedure involves using at least a class 3 architectural shingle, with the added flexibility of upgrading to a range of premium shingle options.

  • While shingling the roof, we will also install high-grade vents, flue caps, pipe jacks, and/or ridge vents.

  • Once the roof is installed, we clean your property of all roofing debris and leave it looking better than when we arrived.

Other Contractors

  • Most contractors never step foot in the attic pre-construction or post-construction leaving any unknown deficiencies or damages caused by roofing construction.

  • Typically, contractors do not have a highly skilled project manager at every job site nor do they have an open line of communication throughout the entire process.

  • Many companies do not tear off the roof down to the decking and if they do they do not include replacements for decking or flashing. This means they are putting new shingles on a roof that could have a bad foundation and will shorten the life of your roof.

  • It is common in the industry for roofing job sites to be messy throughout the entire day. This creates an unsafe work environment and a hazard to the homeowner.

  • The code requirements for drying in the home only include up to 30lb. felt paper with Ice & Water Shield only in the valleys. Most contractors barely meet minimum code requirements if they do at all. At our company, we recognize the significance of offering complimentary upgrades to our customers as a means of safeguarding the longevity of their roofs.

  • Other contractors tend to skip the installation of the drip edge or leave the pre-existing drip edge in order to save money. Drip-edge is a vital component of your roof that prevents the penetration of wind-driven rain into your fascia/decking.

  • Most contractors also save money using 3-tab shingles oriented upside-down instead of proper starter shingles. This is incorrect because 3-tab shingles do not have the correct nailing zones or adhesive strips as a proper starter shingle. This could cause leaks into the perimeter of your home.

  • While shingling the roof, most contractors avoid replacing the pre-existing vents, flue caps, pipe jacks, and/or ridge vents to cut costs. This will cause leaks and will shorten the life of your roof.

  • Once finished, most contractors leave the homeowner’s property in disarray leaving behind nails, roofing debris, damaged horticulture, and damage to the general property.
